Tribe: A Guide to Global Tranquility is an audacious book that analyzes world peace with a view to ending human subjugation and with the intent of sharing food and shelter with all humankind. Tribe examines a philosophy of life and moral code that might allow the world to establish a global, durable, prosperous peace. In that strange new world, people will actively resist being entrapped in spiritual, political, and ethnic bondage. They will be able to reject or embrace any religious, political, or social belief they desire, free from interference. This cultural metamorphosis, colossal in scope, will call for major surgery to our belief systems, not quick bandaids. Tribe proposes a simple, original surgical plan.

Tribe supplies a nutritional supplement for the human spirit that can improve the lives of Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, all people of faith, as well as atheists, agnostics, and those of alternative beliefs. Tribe provides a philosophy of life, perhaps the only philosophy of life, that will allow all these people to live together in peace with modest prosperity — food and shelter for all — while preserving their moral beliefs and retaining the diverse religious rituals they have come to love. Of course, such harmony is next to impossible in the world we know, but a super majority of the world’s population will benefit from changing the world we know. The Challenge

Global peace will require global cooperation. People everywhere must genuinely want peace, and as pointed out in Tribe, they must want peace above all else. This means that a preponderance of the global community must agree to a philosophy of life such as proposed in Tribe or must agree to a similar philosophy.

A Tipping Point

A site on the worldwide web recently declared the world population to be 8,286,985,158. The world has more than eight billion people, and we need to persuade roughly 2.4 billion of them to adopt the guidelines in Tribe.

Why 2.4 Billion?

Of the eight billion people alive, only about six billion are of age and only about forty percent of those will have strong opinions one way or the other about anything (about 2.4 billion). This number of supporters, though not a majority, I think will constitute a tipping point above which movement toward an Age of Tranquility has a chance to be successful. Below that number, opposition fueled by greed or gluttony might prevail.

Many innovative thinkers will immediately take to the philosophy proposed in Tribe. Even so, it might still take years or decades for the English language version of the book to reach a significant segment of the inhabited world. It will take decades more, maybe generations more for translated editions of the book to circulate and become available in every nook and cranny. We might not reach a global tipping point toward peace any time soon. We can hold out hope, however, that our children and grandchildren might arrive at an enduring state of global peace and prosperity before the grownups finish the hell-on-earth fiasco they seem intent on creating.

No discussion about peace is complete without a discussion about prosperity. Peace and prosperity are highly esteemed human values, but ten thousand years ago they became competing values with prosperity sometimes prevailing. Humans have been willing to use force or fraud to improve their lives from that time forward, and Tribe shows where, when, and how wars have erupted time after time, generation after generation, nation after nation. Tribe acknowledges the importance to humanity of both peace and prosperity, but it advances a critical warning — putting peace first is the only way that everybody everywhere can have both.
